CCCS SUPPORTS NATIONAL HOMEOWNERSHIP MONTH WITH ASSISTANCE FOR HOMEOWNERS FACING FORECLOSURE PDF Print E-mail

For Immediate Release on June 7, 2007

June is National Homeownership Month.  Consumer Credit Counseling Service® of North Central Texas, Inc. (CCCS) supports National Homeownership Month by offering the most comprehensive counseling and loss mitigation available.  Housing counseling services include pre-purchase counseling, pre-rental counseling, foreclosure prevention, reverse mortgage counseling and predatory lending.  CCCS is partnering with the Dallas HOPE Partnership to help homeowners in North Texas who may be facing foreclosure.

A hotline—888-995-HOPE—is hosted by Homeownership Preservation Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to reducing foreclosures throughout the United States. The hotline is available  24/7 in both English and Spanish.

“Residential foreclosures are at an all time high in North Texas,” said Reid Remington, Housing Director at CCCS.  “Our counseling efforts are saving 97 percent of these homes from foreclosure by forging an agreement between the homeowner and mortgage lender that is acceptable to both parties.  Unfortunately, many people facing foreclosure feel the situation is hopeless because they are not aware of our service.”

The Homeownership Preservation Foundation knows that many people are still unaware that there are nonprofit counseling agencies specializing in saving homes and the counseling is free to the homeowner.  CCCS is participating in the hotline which will put the homeowner in contact with the counseling agency.  After the counseling session the homeowner will receive a written action plan which may include communicating with the mortgage lender to facilitate a solution.

There are three free workshops available to homeowners this month.

-         Wednesday June 13th in Dallas same hours as DeSoto at the North Texas Housing Coalition 2900 Live Oak (Oak Room), Dallas, TX 75204.

-         Saturday June 16th in Plano there will be two workshops, 9:00 a.m. registration with workshop at 9:30 and Q&A at 11:00 a.m.  The second workshop: registration is at 12:30 p.m. with the workshop at 1:00 p.m. with Q&A at 2:30 p.m. at the Plano City Hall Building. 1520 Avenue K, Plano, TX 75074.

The Homeownership Preservation Foundation (HPF) is a Minneapolis-based 501c (3) nonprofit dedicated to reducing foreclosures and preserving homeownership for American homeowners.  The Foundation was formed in September 2004 and operates the Homeowner’s HOPE Hotline, an independent, free counseling service at 888-995-HOPE.  Through partnerships with city, county and state governments, federal government agencies, community-based non-profit organizations, and mortgage companies, HPF offers creative solutions to preserving homeownership.  For more information about the Homeownership Preservation Foundation, please visit http://www/hpfonline.org.

Client Testimonials

Six months ago I thought there was no hope financially.  I was overwhelmed with the past due bills and creditor calls.  I would have to run late on one bill to pay another to bring it current.  It was a vicious cycle.  After working with my credit counselor at C.C.C.S., I found I could pay my bills on time, save a little money, and even have extra funds for special things.  Along with working out a debt management program, Wendy showed me how I could live within a budget.  Not only has she provided financial advise and assistance, her personal encouragement is invaluable.  I’m learning not to stress out when things get tight financially.  She helped me see there is always a solution!  Thanks so much!—Tricia K.
