1942 | Retail Credit Institute of America, Inc. (RCIA) was established in New York City . During World War II, retail credit executives anticipated an American economy, based on the intelligent use of credit as a foundation for family financial planning, which would pave the way toward a nation enjoying the highest standard of living in history. | 1950 | The National Commission on Consumer Credit, established by the Truth-in-Lending law, did an enormous amount of research into all aspects of consumer credit. | 1951 | On June 7, a new organization, The National Foundation for Consumer Credit (NFCC), was formed by officers of RCIA. During the early years, one of NFCC's purposes was to develop an affirmative consumer credit program through organization members. NFCC also increased its focus on congressional and legislative issues and school programs in the intelligent use of credit. | 1964 | The first not-for-profit Consumer Credit Counseling Service (CCCS ) agencies prepared to open under the umbrella of NFCC. Many early CCCS offices were staffed by volunteers. Throughout the remainder of the decade the Foundation was widely accepted as “the voice of Consumer Credit.” The Foundation expanded its operation with new offices, additional staff and consultants, publications and research. The NFCC affiliated offices of CCCS numbered more than 1300 nationally by the end of the 1990's and were counseling over 1 million consumers. NFCC changed its name to the National Foundation for Credit Counseling in 1999. | 1980 | CCCS of North Central Texas was founded in McKinney , Texas on May 14, 1980 . The agency originally served the cities of McKinney , Plano , Denton and Greenville . | 1996 | Danny Wolf became President and the agency expanded to include more than 35 counties in Texas and portions of Oklahoma and Arkansas . The agency is a national award winner. The prestigious Most Improved Agency, The Presidential Citation for Excellence in Service, The Award for Innovation, and Award for Client of the Year. Two national TV commercial awards—the Telly Awards—for best music and best overall commercial in the industry. - All counselors with the agency are certified as credit counselors through a third party. The agency is approved by HUD and counselors are also certified to provide guidance in handling mortgage default, pre-mortgage counseling, foreclosures and rental delinquency counseling and reverse mortgage counseling. Agency facilitates the HUD/ TDHCA 8-hour housing workshop.
